Casein is a source of protein derived from milk that is slowly absorbed into the body over several hours. Since casein is pH sensitive, a gel of a certain consistency is formed in the stomach, which is why the breakdown of the protein into amino acids occurs more slowly. This is also the reason why casein is a “slow-release” protein.

The important thing for exercisers who want to maintain or increase their muscle mass is not to fall into a catabolic state. This can easily happen at night, so slow-digesting proteins are ideal for when you know it will be a while before your next meal (usually in the evening). Casein Royal by Swedish Supplements contributes to the normal growth and maintenance of muscle mass.
