Alder Lake's 12th-generation processors are expected to deliver 40-50% faster speeds than Intel Skylake. Initial tests show a 20% improvement on next-generation 16-core chips compared to the 11th-generation Intel Tiger Lake, DigitalTrends reports.

Users looking to upgrade their current computer configurations to Alder Lake should know that they will need new hardware, as the LGA 1700 Socket is needed. The new socket offers major improvements such as the PCI Express 5.0 standard, DDR5 RAM, as well as the latest versions of Thunderbolt and Wi-Fi.

There are six new models and they are all manufactured in a 10nm process. This is definitely not the most modern architecture, as AMD has already moved to 7nm and is moving to 5nm. However, even with Intel's older architecture, performance levels are high. Three of the six models include Intel Core i9-12900K, Intel Core i7-12700K and Intel Core i5-1260K. The other three are variants of these KF models. For those who don't know, F means no integrated graphics processor, which means you need a separate video card even to display images.

In addition to the new architecture, one of the main features of the new processors is the ability to switch to a hybrid core architecture. Instead of using multiple cores with almost the same performance. Alder Lake uses a combination of productive cores (P-cores) and efficient cores (E-Core).

The chips will work in much the same way as modern smartphone processors. P-cores will perform tasks that require more performance, such as demanding applications or even games. In this way, efficient cores will perform this task when playing music or performing some other low-level task, such as examining your files. E-Core can perform specific tasks while consuming less memory.
